June 15 – La Misa Negra – Summer kickoff

July 20 – Sunny War

August 17 – Jazz Mafia’s Grateful Bass

September 21 – True Loves

Oakland’s own La Misa Negra launches the summer series on Saturday, June 15, bringing their high- energy Afro-Latin and Cumbia grooves to the Radium Runway outdoor stage. Powered by horn and accordion-driven riffs and a fierce rhythm section, La Misa Negra has shared stages and festival appearances with the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz, and more. Samba- reggae-funk band SambaDá opens.

On July 20, Nashville-based singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso Sunny War headlines. Her emotional mix of gospel, blues, folk, and rock are delivered with her signature innovative guitar style which L.A. Weekly’s Michael Simmons proclaims, “I haven’t heard a young guitarist this dexterous … in eons.” San Francisco singer-songwriter and guitarist Diana Gameros opens for this concert.

For the August 17 concert, Jazz Mafia’s Grateful Brass reimagines the iconic music of the Grateful Dead with instrumentation of brass, drums,, and vocals digging deep into the Grateful Dead discography with creative re-imaginations infused with the ebullient spirit of New Orleans Second Line, Afrobeat grooves, energetic Afro-Cuban polyrhythms, and Balkan brass, all sitting on top of a heavy foundation of funk. Modern micro brass band The SticklerPhonics join the bill for this show.

Closing out the series on September 21 is popular Seattle-based funk and soul ac True Loves. The band has been called “simply one of the best bands in Seattle” by KEXP’s John Richards. Opening for the final concert is Bay Area soul duo Andre Cruz & Chris Lujan. About the concert series, Radium’s operations manager Rachel Campos de Ivanov said, “We couldn’t be more excited to share this dramatic location with such an eclectic, and talented lineup for this year’s Runway Concert Series. Between the amazing talent and the unique venue it’s going to be an incredible experience.”

Sunday, July 21st

Masego

Stern Grove, San Francisco

12 PM, Ages: All

Free

Masego is that movement. It’s a grand, eloquent, and somewhat mischievous one, from an artist who thrives on mixing contemplation with extroversion, smoldering romance with knowing humor, and studied musical discipline with exhilarating flights of intuition.

Masego is only his second album after the quiet storm of 2018’s critically embraced Lady Lady, a series of EPs going back to 2015, and the frankly phenomenal signature song, Tadow, that wrote his name on the world. But the story this album tells — literally, in vignettes reflecting the contours of his life in all shades of his vast musical palette — encompasses a long journey in pursuit of something higher.
