As we approach the holidays and get excited for the glory of dishes at Thanksgiving, or presents during the holidays, and celebrating the new year, we also get to look forward to the season of giving! Whether it is donating gently used clothes to a local charity, purchasing toys for a toy drive, or participating in a food banks food drive, there are endless opportunities that are available at the tip of your fingers to give back this holiday season.
I have listed a few ideas, as well as local places in San Francisco that could use our help this winter.
St Anthony’s Free Clothing Program. St Anthony’s runs the city’s largest free clothing program that provides gently-used clothing to those in need. You can purge your closet and donate warm clothing and items such as blankets, jackets, pants, beanies, and gloves.
Donate non-perishable goods to YMCAs Food Pantry. San Francisco’s YMCA helps those facing food insecurity by providing them a bag full of groceries when they stop by one of their Food Pantries. Non-perishable items include canned goods such as beans, soup, fruit, gravy, and peanut butter. It also includes dry items like flour, powdered milk, tea bags, nuts and seeds, and dried fruits and vegetables
Gift toys to a charity and toy drives for children and who may experience a lesser fortunate holiday season this year. San Francisco Fire Fighters Union puts on a toy drive every year.
